ten minutes through a new lens

Say hi to my new camera-friend! For the last six months I have been considering getting a new camera, and not an analogue one. Honestly, this sudden yearning for something in the digital area was a little surprising. No matter how much I love and cherish film cameras and the whole process of waiting for a roll to be finished, getting it developed and scan the negatives, you can't deny the quick and at least almost instant pleasure of using a digital camera.

Last wednesday I finally made a decision and placed an order. I didn't want a new DSLR, I wanted something more compact with a fixed lens. I went for the Fuji x100s which I have had my eye on for quite a while. On monday it arrived. So far I'm really impressed with the image quality and the way it handles different lightsources and situations. Though, I haven't had a chance to properly try it out yet since there's absolutely no daylight left when I get home from work now. I did however manage to squeeze in a few quick frames yesterday morning before leaving for work:

The mandatory mirror self-portrait, Leia hanging out underneath the coats in our hallway and watching me putting on my shoes, and a snap of Leia's morning routine - during the night we close the door to our bedroom and the cats stay in the living room while we sleep. Each morning when I open the door Leia quickly runs inside and jumps onto the windowsill to drink from a glass of water Leo always puts there before going to sleep the previous night. I think she really likes to drink from glasses instead of her own bowl.

  1. To me it's more about the photographer than the camera.

    1. When it comes to shooting that is definitely more important for me as well! But when you're thinking of buying something (especially something expensive) it is hard not to think about technical qualities since it's a piece of machinery you haven't used before :)

  4. I am thinking about buying a new camera. Now I have a huge DSLR camera, but I never use it. I only use my cellphone cause that's just easier. The DSLR is alwas a bit to big to carry around.
I would love to read more about how you like your new camera! :)

    1. That was one of the reasons I bought this as well. I'm so tired of carrying a DSLR around, and even though I like using my cellphone as well I somehow don't see those pictures as "real" photos.

  6. Seems like more and more people I follow are transition to the Fuji system. They seem like awesome cameras and I'm due for an upgrade, so it's awesome to see more photographs with it :)

  15. i agree with Avy. it's so much more about the photographs, the natural photo feel or the breezy clarity of digital, the camera usually tells me what to shoot. there's something really great about both forms, film and digital. the waiting but also the gratification of savig and sharing a mood/event with the blog world while the feeling is still fresh on the mind and heart.
beautiful images and what a cute cat with a great personality. :D

    1. Haha, thank you :) I edited and converted these to jpgs in the raw converter that came with the camera when you installed everything on your computer. Honestly, the software really sucks but it has curves (which my version of photoshop doesn't have, and I have really missed editing with curves) and that sort of makes up for it, at least a little bit.

    1. It's so sweet :) If I bring a glass of water to myself I often have to get one for Leia as well to keep her from drinking from mine.
