Foer is one of my favourite authors; 'Extremely Loud..' is a much loved book, I feel as if the characters are real people and I think fondly of the first time I read it. I really do hope you enjoy reading it.
I purchased 'Eating Animals' only last week (after waiting over a year for the paperback to be released!) I cannot wait to start reading; however, I have to finish 'Bonfire of the Vanities' first!
I read 'Norwegian Wood' a while back.. I really do not understand why everyone raves about the particular Murakami book, hmm. I will try a couple more of his books before I truly give up.
I've been looking for a book to dive into. It's been raining like crazy where I'm from, so this is great inspiration. I'm gonna have to pay Borders a visit. Thanks
I've read six of Murakami's books and I guess I could read all of them at once without feeling guilty or without being scared to get tired of his stories, but I try not to do that. Right now I am thinking to get a new one, just don't know yet each one to pick, maybe I pick the one you read (:
I am just finishing "Just Kids" by Patti Smith and next I am going to read "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" that is making success all around the planet. Plus, I will read a book of a Polish writers about some of his true adventures in Africa. I'm very passionate for Africa by the way.
magnolia: this is the first time that I'm reading anything by foer, but I've heard nothing but good things :)
joanna: oh, that's so nice!
sophie: I'm quite excited to read 'extremely loud..', it really feels like a book that suits me. 'norwegian wood' is probably my favourite book by murakami, I fell in love instantly and I couldn't put it away once I had started reading it. I do however understand why some people have difficulties with murakami - he's not for everyone, I think :)
gina: I'll stop by!
alicia: åh, vilken bok läser du?
joanaG: I feel like that about murakami's stories as well, I could read them over and over again with getting tired :) I've had my eyes on 'just kids' by patti smith for a while, she's a really neat lady. I haven't read 'the girl with the dragon tattoo', but I loved the movie (and I almost never like swedish movies), so I'm sure the book is great too. have a nice week you too!
Ohhh Annette! You must read Murakami's "Hard Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World". It is one of my absolute faves and I think you would enjoy it too! :D
wow, seems that we like the same authors :-) the top an bottom one i've already read - great stuff!! and the middle is waiting in my shelf. foers book was really something special (never read a book, where the "design" of the typing also had such a special meaning) and murakami is my all time fave - i read all of his books, which were available in a language i could read, unfortunately japanese is too complicated ;-) most of my friends dont like his books, everytime i try to convince them they tell me, he has a strange imagination :( but that's the great thing about his books!
I've heard about Foer at the first time not by reading his book, but a film titled "Everything is Illuminated". Later, I knew that it based on his first novel.
And Murakami, I've just read Kafka on the Shore, and his two other books: Norwegian Wood and Kaze No Uta O Kike. It's kinda difficult to get his book in my local bookstore, but I am planning to buy them when I travel to the capital city of my country.
sun: har bara hört fina saker om extremely loud, ser väldigt mycket fram emot att läsa den :)
charlyn w: I'll purchase that next time I feel the need to have new books!
alicia & amy: oh, thank you both so much!
veeria: it hasn't been released in sweden yet, so no. but I really look forward to seeing it, even if it probably isn't as good as the book.
gryczka: murakami's imagination is the best element in his writings, I just love it so much. it always feels like being in another world when reading his books :)
cho: I saw 'everything is illuminated' last year or something, and I thought it was really great as well. I'll probably have to read the book version some time too!
My brother said it watched the film ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") and he didn't like it comparing with he book, he says they tell the story too quickly. I'm still in the third chapter so I can't tell much, but so far I am enjoying it, only then I'll watch the film. I hear that will be an American version too.
You really need to read "Just Kids", it's marvelous and inspiring. I miss it, those words, the people, the relationship between Patti and Robert... looks like I was there. Try it as soon as you can!
Huge fan of your blog and photography by the way!!! And I have Everything Is Illuminated, but I have yet to read it. Did you know they're making a movie on Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, directed by Stephen Daldry?! :)
foer is great! so is murakami!
ReplyDeletehave fun with them!
