horses, fog & those so very quiet days

The only productive things I did yesterday: Running and scanning negatives.

There is something wrong with the shutter mechanism in my zenit-b now - half of most images comes out black. I shot my very last zenit-roll for a project with my friend Anna-Frida in April this year. We'll get to those later. So, now my favourite camera of all time just sits on a shelf in my bedroom. I remember buying it on ebay for £2 and I don't think I will ever be able to find one so cheap again.

    1. I think so too :( Hopefully I'll be able to buy a new one at some point.

  3. Lovely scenes, I guess that black blur on your first picture is because of the Zenit-camera then. I actually think it looks nice on that picture. :)

    1. Exactly! I like it on this one as well though. Sort of looks like you're turning a page or something.

  5. Beautiful, yes. I've had the same problem than you with my pentax spotmatic, the black parts on the side of the pictures. The strange thing is that it only does that when it's very cold (both times when I was in Scandinavia haha).

    1. Leo has a spotmatic as well, and I think his did the same thing when it was cold, haha. Unfortunately my zenit now does it no matter what temperature or shutter speed used (in the beginning it was just the 1/500 that was affected). Oh well!

  7. Love these pictures! I remember having a similar problem with one of my cameras too..
May I ask, do you measure the exposure somehow, or just trust your gut or follow some rule when you shoot with Zenith?

    1. Nowadays I mostly just trust my gut. In the beginning I had a digital SLR with me to measure the light with before taking a photo with the zenit, but after a while I think you sort of get the hang of it. I tend to overexpose things, though.

  9. my favourite camera broke this summer (I dropped it....totally my fault), but I feel your pain. Having it just sit there makes me sad :(

  10. Hey, does the black always come on the same side (as in your first photo)? The Zenit-b has a horizontal travelling shutter curtain, and it could be that the curtain is getting stuck, or traveling slower than it should. Many times this is due to old lubricating oil that accumulates. That's why the problem can get more prevalent in cold temperatures, as some one just mention.

I bet you that the problem won't happen if you shoot a roll with the camera held vertically, towards the side in which the curtain will drop. The problem can easily be fixed by sending your camera for cleaning/relubricating.

    Your photographs are great.

    1. Thank you Roberto. You're totally right! I'm sure some oil would fix it, but I don't know where to send it for a cleaning. Another girl who had the same problem I talked to about this a while ago said she had a relative who helped her oil the mechanism, so I'm hoping I can find someone I know who actually knows how to do this.

  12. I am seriously in love with your blog! I like these blurry photos that are taken with analog cameras... somehow they are more honest than digital photos. Fog and analog cameras are a good combination too :)

    1. Thank you so much! I use my iphone only for the things I post on instagram (instagram.com/annettepehrsson), but other than that I have a few analogue cameras (both 35mm and medium format), some polaroids and two digital SLRs that I use. The photos in this entry were taken with a Zenit-b. Some other cameras that I use frequently are Polaroid SX-70, Yashica Mat and a Chinon 1000s that I bought recently to replace my broken Zenit-b.

  16. Sorry to hear about your broken camera - maybe you can find someone who's able to repair it! The pictures are beautiful though!

    1. I really hope so! I've bought a replacement camera though, a Chinon 1000s that feels pretty good, but even though I haven't developed any film from it yet I know it won't be the same as with the zenit. I have never been able to tell what's so special about it. I guess that's what makes it so special.

Kram!
